Premium Wordpress Design (Part 6)

Part 2 of the CSS Process, Oh no!

February 16, 2009 by Gary Simon

As we continue on with the CSS, in part 6 we’ll write the CSS for the left half of the body.  In part 7 we’ll finish the CSS off. I wish I could think of more content to type here, but I won’t bore you.  Enjoy.

Gary, these are awesome.

But I do have a question –

roughly how long did it take you to learn how to design websites and be able to code PHP/xHTML/CSS/etc…? Seems like it would take someone a long time to learn the languages, is there a tough learning curve?

I couldn’t tell you exactly how long it took me. I didn’t set out one day and say “I’m going to learn everything” and start learning from start to finish. It was more of a process and I learned what I needed to learn when I took on a project. So, the best way to learn is by coming up with a site idea with the intention of finishing it and making money from it, and just getting in there and doing what it takes to learn what you need to learn in order to finish it. That’s exactly how I learned to design and write css/html/js/php/mysql. Of course it’s a rough start at first, but it’s definitely possible as long as you’re determined enough and don’t hesitate on asking questions on the many resources available online.. Forums like sitepoint.com and webmasterworld.com offer are ideal for seeking help on particular issues. :)

It’s always fun to see a pro at work :) Great video.

Would you recommend learning Javascript/PHP/mysql to be able to make a living of making and selling websites and such?

Jonas, of course ;) Why not? The more you know, the better. But I would also strongly emphasize being able to generate traffic as well if you want to build and sell websites for a profit. This includes SEO, PPC, social media, viral traffic, etc..

Well thats logical :P

Hmm ok. For a inexperienced newbie like me that never learned about the marketing of a website, but just,, making them (designing and coding with HTML and CSS), do you know of any site that explain how to do/what to know so that even a guy like me would understand (swedish 19years old)? ot maybe sites that gives hints/tips on how to start?

Thanks for this tut and your time - quick question since you’re also proficient on other various languages (server side & client side) would you be providing tuts on those topics?

Once again, great site!!!!!!

Great stuff I really appreciate it. I’m eagerly awaiting part 7 and to be honest I’ve actually gone on without you and I’m trying to get the sidebar CSS done and so far it’s going well.

It will be interesting to see what settings you use for certain classes and IDs and see if they match with mine in part 7.

Again, thank you for all the help. You finally made CSS “click” for me!
